Guest Speaker

Join us and welcome Dr. Le’Trice Donaldson, Assistant Professor of African American History at Auburn University and President of the Society for Black Military Studies. She will speak about her recent publication, Duty Beyond the Battlefield: African American Soldiers Fight for Racial Uplift, Citizenship, and Manhood, 1870—1920.

The National Civil War Naval Museum in partnership with Columbus State University History Department, Hallock Endowment will host Dr. Jonathan White, Professor of American Studies at Christopher Newport University. An award-winning scholar, he will speak about his new book, A True Civil War Story of Mutinies, Jailbreaks, Blockade-Running, and the Slave Trade.

River Blast Festival 2025

This educational and fun event takes place at the museum annually featuring live entertainment, museum tours, family activities, cannon firings, and Civil War re-enactors with food and craft vendors. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Volunteer Meetup

Interested in history? Like meeting new people? Have some time to volunteer? This is your perfect opportunity. The museum is looking for volunteers to serve as tour guides and guest service representatives. Scheduling is flexible and no extensive knowledge of Civil War naval history is necessary. Training will be provided. Attend a meet-up and see if this is a good fit for you.

When: First Monday of the month @ 1:00pm

The Confederate Lake Erie Plot

Exploring the stories of the Civil War navies broadens the scope of the war to unexpected waters. A less remembered story is the Confederate attempt to capture the USS Michigan and wreak havoc on the Great Lakes region.
